Websphere MQ 7.0

October 30th, 2008 No comments

Attended the Websphere MQ 7.0 Proof of Technology in Seattle the other day. The day was pretty good, and I’m glad the presenter was able to adjust to the fact that virtually everyone in the room was an experienced admin or developer.

The new features are nice, especially those for managing connections. Other new stuff:

  • FP3 for WebSphere Message Broker 6.1 ships in November, and that will allow me to use MQ 7.0 under that version of Broker. Broker 7.0 isn’t due to ship until late 2009
  • When we upgrade to MQ 7 on the mainframe, that will include the Client Access Facility that is currently an extra charge. That will allow us to connect to MQ on the mainframe with any client, including MQ Explorer. No more managing MQ through TSO!
