About Me

November 17th, 2010

I am an IT professional, in the business since 1992, but generally geeking out in one way or another since middle school when I tried to wire-wrap an S-100 bus system (and if you know what that is, you’re seriously dating yourself). Didn’t succeed, but not for lack of trying with photocopied plans and The Cheap Video Cookbook.

I started out with v2 of the Notes client and doing some basic programming for that, then getting officially trained/certified in v3 administration and design. I skipped v4 certification, after hopping around a couple of jobs, but also managed to do some of the first implementations of the original Lotus web server, code-named “Domino”. This expanded in to some web development, while doing traditional Notes client development at the same time.

Through a couple more job changes, I find myself not doing much development anymore, but I certain have expanded the breadth of real experience with various products. I now administer Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007/2010, Office Communications Server 2007 R2 (and soon Lync), Lotus Domino 8.5.1, and much of the WebSphere portfolio (core WAS, WebSphere MQ, WebSphere Message Broker, IBM HTTP Server).

For an additional twist, the company I work for is an Exchange shop; our use of Domino is exclusively as a web server, serving up most of our public sites as well as our corporate intranet.
